If you have never heard of Calf Creek before that's OK, it is a little camp site in the Grand Stair Case-Escalante National Park in Southern Utah. Every year for Easter we go camping with a group of friends. This year was no exception, we had 5 other families that went camping. I will list them by their walkie talkie call signs to conceal their true identities. (tighty whities, flying J's, Jabba the Hut, the three amigas, oil barrons, and the Earnhardts)
Our camping weekend started out with 5 families rolling into this small campsite and taking over the place, it was first come first serve no reservations allowed. We could only find 2 campsites that were close together so we used them, and maxed them out. When I say maxed out I mean over loaded. I'm sure we broke some OSHA regulations with the number of people we had in those two camp sites. After setting up camp we ate dinner and hit the sack. The next day we went on an awesome hike called Spooky Gulch and Picaboo Gulch

Calf Creek
This was such a cool hike. It was a really narrow slot canyon that was about 3/4 of a mile long. Some spots were really snug, but the rock formations were so awesome. The kids had a great time and had no trouble fitting through the slot.
This hike took us all day, but it was well worth it.
The next days activities included shooting and hiking. Yes I said shooting, all you tree hugger - PETA whackos out there. We happen to be in an area of the country where recreational shooting is allowed. All of the guys brought there shotguns, we had a clay launcher and 800 rounds of ammo. What could go wrong?
This was a lot of fun, especially from the cheering section that was watching from behind us. Yes it was our families, but the whoopin and holarin was fun to hear. After the shooting was over and we all had soar shoulders it was time to go on another hike. This hike was to the upper falls of calf creek. This also was a fun hike and had it not been chilly when we got there we all would have jumped in the pool at the bottom of the falls. As it was, there were only a few brave souls that jumped in the water and became instant popsicles. After the hike we all enjoyed a really good dutch oven dinner and then had a marsh mellow roasting contest. I wont say who won, but he is wearing a green shirt in the above pictures (Oh Ya) The next day we woke up to a little bit of rain, but then the sun came out so we packed up camp while the Easter Bunny hid some eggs.
The kids really enjoy this Easter Egg hunt. There are so many good hiding spots and the Easter Bunny does a great job hiding the eggs. Good job Easter Bunny. The eggs are high and low so that all age ranges get challenged. After all the eggs were collected, each childs bounty compared , and much chocolate consumed it was time to head home. This was such a fun trip. We had a great time and are looking forward to next years Easter adventure.
